Where you are
Inside a protected Sahyadri forest
The Vasota trek runs through the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary, part of the
Sahyadri landscape in the Western Ghats — a UNESCO-recognised biodiversity hotspot. This is
real, dense deciduous and semi-evergreen jungle: tall canopy, birdsong, and the genuine
feeling of being deep in the forest rather than on a manicured trail. Because access is by
boat and entry is regulated, the area stays remarkably undisturbed.
To be clear about what this is: it is a guided jungle trek and boat experience,
not a vehicle game-drive safari. The pleasure here is the forest itself — the walk, the
canopy, the lake, and the chance of birds and the occasional sign of larger wildlife — all
done responsibly inside a protected sanctuary.
Doing it responsibly
Permits, guides, and leaving no trace
Entry needs Forest Department permission and a photo ID for every visitor, and a guide is
mandatory — rules that exist to protect both you and the sanctuary. We arrange the
permissions and the boat, brief every group, and ask everyone to carry out what they carry
in. Keeping the jungle clean and quiet is the only way trips like this stay open.
