Vasota Permits, ID Proof & Forest Rules (2026 Guide)
Vasota Fort lies inside the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary — protected forest, not open countryside. That is exactly why it is still wild and quiet. It also means entry is regulated. Here is everything arranged, and everything you need to do (very little).
Do I need a permit?
Yes — Forest Department entry permission is required for every visitor. But you do not arrange it yourself. Our host at Bamnoli handles the permission process on the day, as part of every package. It is included; there is no separate permit fee to pay us and no form to fill in advance.
What can change: on high-crowd days the department caps entries, which is one more reason to book your date in advance rather than just showing up.
Which ID should I carry?
One government photo ID per adult — any of these works:
- Aadhaar card
- Driving licence
- Voter ID or passport
A photo on your phone is usually acceptable, but carry the original to be safe. Children do not need ID.
Forest rules that actually matter
These are enforced, not decorative:
- Stay with your guide. Leaving the marked trail is prohibited — and genuinely unsafe in dense sanctuary forest.
- No littering. Carry wrappers back. Our groups carry a collection bag; use it.
- No smoking or open flames on the trail. The bonfire happens only at the managed camp.
- No loud music on the trail or at the fort. Wildlife, other groups, and the whole point of being there.
- No alcohol on the trek. Keep the camp evening decent — it is a family camp.
- No drones without prior forest permission. Ask us well in advance if aerial shots matter to you.
- No feeding or approaching wildlife. Sightings (giant squirrels, birds, the occasional larger mammal at distance) are a bonus, not a petting zoo.
What if the route is closed?
The department can shut the trail for weather, water levels, or administrative reasons — most notably the full monsoon closure (mid-June to September). If a closure affects your date, we tell you in advance and reschedule or rework the plan (often to a Camp + Boating trip). We never run the trek against a closure. More on timing in the season guide.
The one-line version
Bring an ID, follow your guide, leave nothing behind — we handle the rest. Questions about your specific date? Ask on WhatsApp.
Ready to plan it for real?
Send your date and group size — we reply with the best quote, usually the same day.
